Now in its fourth year, the Woodstock Winter Beer Festival is one of Cape Town’s top beer events, best known for its lineup of limited edition, wintry brews (my tip – get there eearly if you want to taste them all!)

This year it’s in an epic new location, the Castle of Good Hops Hope. There will be beers from 14 local breweries (full details on the FB event page) plus all the usuals – food trucks, live music. Chain mail optional. Early bird tickets are now on sale for a bargain R60. Once they’ve gone, tickets are R80 online and R100 at the gate (I recommend nabbing advance tickets though – it tends to sell out).

This year the organisers will be collecting donations for NOAH (Neighborhood Old Age Homes) based in the heart of Woodstock, which provides incredible independent services and advocacy to pensioners living in the area. Monetary donations can be made through your ticket purchase or you can bring the following to the festival to donate:

• unwanted clothing or shoes that are in good condition for them to sell in their second-hand shop
• nonperishable food
• blankets, jackets, and items for the winter season
