It’s back. The biggest, beeriest 12 days of the year. It’s #12DaysofBeermas! And if you’re new to the blog and don’t know what that is, prepare to be amazed. For the next 12 days, I will be giving away some really, really cool prizes (The brewers have gone all-out this year) from Brauhaus am Dam, Breede River, Copper Lake, Darling, Devil’s Peak, Drifter, Frontier, Gilroy’s, Jack Black, League of Beers, Liefmans, Little Wolf, Mad Giant, Mitchell’s, Nieuw Brew, Old Potter and Saggy Stone.

The competitions vary each day so bookmark this page, check back every morning and also follow along on Facebook and Twitter. Good luck and Merry Beermas!

Day twelve (Dec 15th): This is it folks, the final prize and man it’s f*%king awesome!!! Ever been to Brauhaus am Damm? It’s a glorious microbrewery perched on the edge of Olifantsnek Dam near Rustenburg, with German-inspired food and award-winning beer. The grand prize in this year’s 12 Days of Beermas kicks off with a beer tasting and brewery tour with Brauhaus brewer Imke Pape, followed by a two course meal at Brauhaus am Damm’s restaurant with, of course, a beer of your choice. Then, you get an overnight stay in the four-star Palmenhof B&B in Kroondal, with breakfast the following morning. But that’s not all – you also get a canopy tour with Magaliesberg Canopy Tours, with a light meal thrown in. And just in case you need a memento of the whole experience, Brauhaus am Damm will give you a branded glass and a six pack of your chosen beer to take home!!!!!

Day eleven (Dec 14th): Just two days to go and today there are two prizes ready to be won. First up, a prize that will make your New Year a very merry one. Robertson-based brewery Saggy Stone is going to turn your New Years Eve party into an epic one with not one, but TWO kegs of beer!! They will also supply dispensing equipment for your party and deliver the kegs (within a specified area – Ts & Cs apply). You can enter on Facebook or tweet the following:

The second competition today is available to beer lovers everywhere, from the Mother City to Modimolle. The winner will get two mixed cases from League of Beers plus a LOB glass. One case and glass goes to the winner and the second set is a gift for a friend of the winner. To enter on Facebook you need to like/share and tell us who you would gift the second case to and why. Day ten (Dec 13th): It’s quite fitting that on the 10th Day of Beermas, The Brewmistress brings to you, a money-can’t-buy gift from a brewery that is celebrating its 10th anniversary this month – Jack Black. The winner of this prize will get to take four friends to the Jack Black brewery in Diep River for a tour and a tasting, and to spend time with the brewer, Sven, as he produces a limited edition brew for the occasion. Jack Black are also throwing in lunch and drinks, plus the winner and friends will later get to take home some of the limited edition beer. Day nine (Dec 12th): It’s December and everyone is thinking about holidays and beer. So how about winning a little beery holiday? The very fine folk at Old Potter’s Inn & Brewhouse are treating one lucky winner (plus a travel partner) to two nights at the Greyton-based inn plus a brewery tour and beer tasting (Ts & Cs apply regarding dates). Day eight (Dec 11th): Today there is one prize for the taking – and it’s a goodie… Want to spend the weekend in the Cederberg, hiking, stargazing and beer-tasting? The team at Nieuw Brew is going to treat one lucky winner – and a friend/partner – to a weekend at the Cederberg Tourist Park and with throw in a burger-and-beer lunch for good measure. It is really the most amazingly beautiful spot to sip a beer and close to some of the best-known Cedeberg hikes. You can enter on Facebook or tweet the following:

Day seven (Dec 10th): It might be Sunday, but the Beermas Fairy does not rest! In fact, today’s prize is an absolute corker, courtesy of Drifter Brewing Co. How would you like to join Drifter’s brewer/owner/skipper Nick Bush for a sunset or afternoon sail on Drifter, the boat? You can take up to five friends along for the ride and enjoy Drifter beers and snacks on board. If you’re lucky, Nick  might even wear his mankini for the complete Drifter experience 😉 Please note this prize is reedemable from mid-January, 2018 in Cape Town.

Day six (Dec 9th): It’s a weekend special! Today is a prize for the Gauteng folk (or anyone visiting Gauteng! courtesy of Gilroy’s – one of the longest running microbreweries in the country.

Weekends at Gilroy’s Brewery are always a great time. Be a hero and invite FIVE of your friends to join you at Gilroy’s on a Saturday of your choice. You and your friends are granted entrance to the “Gilroy Beer Experience” – the inimitable beer tasting event, hosted by Steve Gilroy (note that this show has an adult theme.)

After the tasting, there is a beer of your choice waiting on the bar, and lunch for your party – either the legendary Gilroy’s Fish & Chips or the Beef Burger. There will be insane amounts of festive cheer and live music in the beer garden to round off the day.

The “Gilroy Beer Experience” is hosted every Saturday from 11am. Guests are welcome to join us from Saturday 6^th January 2018 onwards. Booking is essential.

Day five (Dec 8^th): First up today is a Western Cape prize – it must be redeemed at the brewery so make sure you can get to the Rawsonville region to collect. Up for grabs is a big pile of goodies from Breederiver Brewing Co:  a mixed case of Breederiver Brewing beers, a brewery tour (pre-booking essential), a Breederiver Brewing t-shirt, a beer tasting for two at Ou Stokery Restaurant AND two standard pizzas each with a 330ml beer on tap at Ou Stokery.  All prizes are only valid Monday to Thursday.

Day four (Dec 7th): Today’s prizes come from two of the country’s most respected breweries, Devil’s Peak and Mad Giant. You have until 8pm to enter, prizes are to be collected at the relevant brewery (which is really rather awesome as it gives you a good excuse to stick around for a beer or two).

Day three (Dec 6th): Once again, there are two prizes today – one for the north, one for the south…

In the Cape: On December 16th it’s the annual Darling Summer Beer Festival, held – of course – at Darling Brewery. To celebrate the start of the Christmas holidays, Darling are offering a VIP table at the fest. This means you don’t get tickets for you and a friend – you get to take SEVEN FRIENDS to the fest! As well as getting the  freshest Darling Brew possible (straight from tank to glass), there are four other breweries, two cider-makers, live bands, stand-up comedians and local food trucks. Day Two: Today I have two prizes for the beer enthusiast (or nerd) – one for beer collectors in the Cape, the other for Gauteng-based beer fans. Both prizes are for collection at the brewery.

In Gauteng: Frontier Beer are well-named, producing some of the most cutting edge beers in the north. And I have some of their rarest brews up for grabs today. Two winners will each get a bottle of the following: The Haymaker – red wine barrel-aged imperial stout. Version 1 (only 282 bottles made); Brett Saison chardonnay barrel aged wild saison (270 bottles made) PLUS, reserved bottles of two yet-to-be-released brews: The Haymaker version 2. (release April 2018) and “Saison de Constance” – brett saison aged in fresh Constantia muscat barrels. This is a Facebook-only competition. In the Cape: Passiflora is the latest creation from local king of the sour, the barrel-aged and the foraged, Stefan Wiswedel of Little Wolf. After ageing in chardonnay barrels for nine months, passion fruit and a touch of gooseberry were added to this sour blonde ale – a bronze medal winner at this year’s CTFOB. Only 150 bottles of this once-off brew were produced and I have four 500ml bottles for one very lucky winner – age them, compare them or just have a bloody good Christmas enjoying them with friends.
