Kennel Brewery opens container taproom in Durbanville

Get a side of smile with your pint 🙂

You might remember, a few weeks back, a post about a crowdfunding campaign from The Kennel Brewery. They were raising capital for a container taproom in Durbanville. Well, I am most pleased to announce that the taproom is now installed and operating. It’s the third time the nano-brewery has opened its own taproom, but let’s hope this time they nailed the location – it was certainly busy last weekend for the soft launch.

The taproom is called St Beer Yard (Kennel have always been kings of canine puns) and it’s based in a red shipping container in the grounds of the Rusty Oak Bistro. It’s got a really nice little beer garden on the lawns – kid friendly, although there’s no jungle gym, and of course, dog-friendly.

You’ll never find the full Kennel range on tap (for that, they would definitely need a bigger container, considering all the special releases they have on rotation), but there’s a good selection on draught, as well as some staples and specials in can (no takeaways allowed).

Food-wise, there’s all manner of deep-fried goodness plus some beery standards – burgers, pulled pork sandwiches – and a lone salad if you, like me, prefer to #drinkyocarbs.

The official launch of St Beer Yard, which will include live music, taster trays and plenty of beer on tap, is on March 26, but the taproom is now open Friday 2pm-10pm, Saturday 11am-10pm and Sunday 11am-6pm. And since today is St Patrick’s Day, they’re opening in celebration and will be pouring Cape Town Brewery’s Nitro Stout on tap alongside their own brews. Go check it out!

St Beer Yard is currently seeking staff to run the bar – head over to their Facebook page for more info.

I am so happy for my good mate and Durbanville local legend Paul Pablo Freysen a.k.a. ‘The Big Dog.’ The new space will definitely be home to many thirsty patrons, who also loves to support local. All the best to St. Beer Yard!

Ps. Great write up, as per usual, Lucy!
