Win a ticket to Beer Boot Camp in Cape Town

Before you read on, this is a subscriber-only competition, so if you haven’t subscribed to the blog yet, I suggest you go and do so now, before reading any further. You’ll find the sign-up box over there ———–>

You do not want to miss out on this level of fun. The FOMO could just finish you off.

You do not want to miss out on this level of fun. The FOMO could just finish you off.

This is my way of thanking you for reading the blog. A couple of weeks ago, I was offered a free ticket to Beer Boot Camp by a friend in the industry. I had already bought tickets for myself and the other half, so I decided the best thing was to give the ticket to one of the people that makes my blog possible – you! I know many of you have probably already bought a ticket to the Cape Town Beer Boot Camp on July 9th, and many of you are in other parts of the country and wouldn’t be able to attend, but for those left, this is probably your very last chance to win a ticket to Boot Camp. Then you’ll just have to give in and buy a ticket (R850) like everyone else. Or suffer the fomo. And you do not want this level of fomo.

So what do you have to do to win (other than being a subscriber to the blog)? Simply tell me why you should. Why do you want to go to Boot Camp? What makes you the most worthy winner? Post your reply in the comments section and check back next Wednesday (I know you check the blog every day anyway, you loyal reader you).

May the biggest beer geek win! And may the rest of you buy a ticket anyway. It’s going to be awesome. See you there.

Well I love beer, some say too much but I don’t think that’s possible! I have recently started home brewing but I want to learn more on techniques and styles and everything there is to know about beer, I want to make the best beer I can. There are limits though as I am a student with a night job and no financial support so budget is tight so for me to win will boost me up which will be awesome but may the best we’ll deserved person win. Regards Matt

Exactly 1 year ago I received my first League of Beers order and it’s safe to say my love of craft has spiralled from then (in the best way possible). It’s become what I’m known for, it’s what I do, it’s my hobby, it’s my passion, it’s put me in touch with an incredible network of super rad people (including your other half – so that’s quite something already). I don’t think I’ve even scratched the surface of knowing all there is to know about beer and really want to know more and eventually start brewing. Not because everyone is doing it but because I’m interested and curious and maybe (just maybe) I’ll make something drinkable. I saw the commotion of last year’s beer boot camp and I remember thinking to myself “I really must go to that one day”. I love beer. I love people. I love drinking beer with people. Also I’ve just moved to Cape Town and this would be such a kiff intro into the industry at large and locally. Your blog has been a sweet place to learn and I have no doubt this experience would just make me even more of a dork. (I’ll save the beer puns for another day). The end.

Because I would lI’ve to attend but my money has already gone to paying for Cameron Doubell’s ticket and nappies for my newborn. Winning a ticket would mean I could attend and baby Liam still gets nappies! ?

A FEW OF MY FAVOURITE THINGS

My name is Giles, I follow your beer blog
Full of great info ‘bout mavericks like Brewdog
I really like beer and good food happenings
These are a few of my favourite things.

Lager and PA, both English and Indian
Porters and stouts, or whatever you call them
Weissbier and amber and rauch beer with wings
These too are some of my favourite things.

When the cold bites, when the sky pales
    When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favourite dark ales
And then I don’t feel so bad.

Woodstock and Devil’s Peak, these are my heroes
Honingberg, Wild Beast, Red Sky and Apollo
Riot and Triggerfish, Boston and Bing’s
These too are truly my favourite things.

Lager for summer and porter for winter
    Pale ale whenever, Californicator
English ales brown, red, rooibos and pumpkin
These are yet more of my favourite things.

When the sun shines, when the sky clears
    When I’m feeling sad
I simply get into my favourite chilled beers
And then I don’t feel so bad.

I’d like to be there for this year’s Beer Boot Camp
Winning a ticket would really make me amped
I believe craft beer round Inbev runs rings
So please can I learn more about my favourite thing?

Why do I need to go to Beer Boot Camp?

As a budding homebrewer and very very passionate beer drinker I have a definate thirst for knowledge on the subject. And I’ve realised through various events and brewery visits that I have only scratched the surface, only dipped my toes if you will. I believe this event, with its talks and presentations by various respected personalities, as well as the homebrew aimed workshops, would be the perfect opportunity to widen my horizons and vastly improve my knowledge and skills. Pair this with the important and massive networking possibilities, and this becomes an event which I really cannot afford to miss.

    Cheers

It’d be pretty darn cool to meet Pete Brown, who will be one of the speakers. If it weren’t for his ‘Man Walks into a Pub’ book (read it twice in 2008) I would never have taken that next step into the magical world of beer.

Well folks, this was a tough one. On the one hand, Giles wrote a song – a SONG! I’m a sucker for a song and a lot of effort clearly went into that. The on the other hand there’s Barry. Now while I’m a mom, I’m not letting the whole baby thing sway me and if it had just been the baba argument then I would have awarded the ticket to Giles. But for me, the very fact that a still young brewery has gone to the effort/expense of purchasing a ticket to Boot Camp so that their brewer can continue his beer education, meaning that the other guy has to stay home refreshing Twitter and feeding his fomo while feeding his baby, to me means that that guy really deserves a ticket. So congrats Barry – a ticket to Saturday’s Boot Camp is yours.

Thanks all for entering and please, please buy a ticket anyway. I don’t want your fomo to be bigger than the poop Barry’s wife is going to make him change as payment for leaving her alone with a newborn this weekend…

Giles – I need to look into a consolation prize, for that song was pretty epic.

Hey, that’s fine – if the man is a brewer, he needs to get the exposure. I’m just an interested drinker and bystander, living on my brewer grandfather’s laurels… and sadly need to work the weekend anyway, so that solves a difficult dilemma… And it was fun to do the song and any consolation will be most welcome!
