Aegir Project teams up with local artist to create unique can artwork

Craft beer is the best. Check out this very cool initiative that took place at Aegir Project in Noordhoek (Cape Town) last Saturday. As beer releases go, this one is definitely one of the most creative, memorable and fun I’ve ever been to.

The beer in question is a 5.5% ABV hazy pale ale dry hopped with Citra and Mosaic, which was packaged in cans with blank labels. The Aegir crew then teamed up with local urban artist Wayne Bks to build a wall of 378 cans of the hazy pale ale. It was a nerve wracking few minutes watching them slot the last few cans into the custom-made frame but luckily nothing fell and the ‘can‘vas was ready to paint.

Donning a mask to block out the fumes, Wayne Bks spent the next hour spray painting a custom piece of artwork onto the cans, while spectators watched, pint of the relevant pale ale in hand.

The final design took about an hour and looked pretty awesome, with every one of the 378 cans getting their share of the paint.

After a few minutes admiring the artwork, the team dismantled the ‘can’vas and started packing the beers into boxes. And now you can purchase your very own piece of drinkable art!

There’s going to be a pretty high demand for these super limited edition cans, so I’d recommend getting down to the taproom, or ordering online as soon as possible. And then you can join in the game or trying to find where your cans sat in the finished artwork.

Hats off to the Aegir team for this initiative. I thought it was epic.
