It’s no secret that I quite like this beer. When I mentioned to a friend that the grand finale of my IPA week was to be a Blockhouse review, he commented that there were already 48478383 reviews out there. So I claimed mine would be better than them all. When I tweeted to that effect earlier, I had no idea what I was going to write. But here it is – I call it ‘Ode to the King’ (and in case you don’t get it, listen to this while you’re reading).
A long, long time ago, I can still remember how South Africa was void of hops
But I knew if the beer was brewed
South Africans would dig IBUs
Then one brewery came and pulled out all the stops
I tasted this beer and it made me shiver
For a hophead it delivered
Passion fruit on the nose
Smells better than any rose
I can’t remember if I cried
When at Fest of Beer, this ale I tried
But SA’s hop scene came alive
The day, the King arrived
So my, my this American I (PA)
It’s called Blockhouse, it’s a knockout
IBUs are quite high (56)
I could drink this beer ’til the day that I die
It’s the beer that I most regularly buy
Whether bottled or in form of a pint
Do you know BJCP?
Well this beer would rate very highly
On RateBeer it’s top of the class
It looks like gold and is clear and bright
With a head that lasts all through the pint
And leaves on your glass lacing that is white
Well I know that you like drinking beer
And although the big hops you might fear
Just lift this to your nose
Man I dig those citrusy notes
It was a lonely IPA in the store
Til the others came and now there are more
But I knew Devil’s Peak would keep the floor
The day the King arrived
I started writing
My, my this American I (PA)
It’s called Blockhouse, it’s a knockout
IBUs are quite high (56)
I could drink this beer ’til the day that I die
It’s the beer that I most regularly buy
Whether bottled or in form of a pint
Absolutely awesome review. Thank you, thank you. It made sing. Should be fit for a King. Don’t distress, Brewmistress because your song was Wow! I’ll try some now.
🙂
The Godfather of SA IPA’s – after having my senses converted to American IPA’s whilst over in New York, this fantastic IPA is always first on my list …… And I do my best to convert light lager drinkers wherever I go, which is not always successful
