Want to learn to brew your own beer in Cape Town?

With the government’s latest alcohol ban now in place, there has never been a better time to learn to brew your own beer. And luckily, level three Covid restrictions allow for small conferences so we have reworked our very popular brewing course into a one-day conference designed to help newbie homebrewers to learn the art of brewing.

The course will be held on July 25th at Afro Caribbean Brewing Company in Cape Town (upstairs from Banana Jam Cafe in Harfield Village). The course is run by two professional, award-winning brewers – Shawn Duthie, founder of Dissident Brewing Co. and former president of the Southyeasters Homebrewers Club, who has been brewing for well over a decade; and Greg Casey – founder of Afro Caribbean Brewing Company, who has brewed with big name brewers from around the world and brings back a ton of knowledge to share.

The conference is aimed at people who have recently started brewing/are about to start and want to turn OK beer into great beer!

The day will include:

  • a full brew, from milling the grain to cooling and adding the yeast
  • where to buy equipment and how to make your own
  • a look at the four ingredients and how to use them to their fullest potential
  • recipe design
  • troubleshooting and problem solving
  • a detailed look at fermentation
  • bottling/kegging your homebrew

All government Covid protocols will of course be followed, including social distancing, regular sanitising (no-one sanitises like a brewer!) and mask-wearing.

The cost is R890, which includes a delicious Banana Jam lunch. To enquire or book, please contact me.
