Win tickets to the 2019 Fools & Fans Beer Festival

It’s time to dig out your best jester cap for the third annual Fools & Fans Beer Festival, happening this Saturday, April 6, in Greyton. The quirky country town fest has grown each year, with 15 South African microbreweries peddling their wares this weekend.

New brews

As well as a host of local breweries, Western Cape beer lovers will have the chance to sample brews from Clockwork Brewhouse and Doctrine Brewing (Pietermaritzburg) as well as festival crowd-pleasers Mad Giant and Frontier, both from Gauteng. Each brewery is bringing at least one unique beer along with their flagships. Special fest beers include a cherry sour (Clockwork), Brut IPA (Franschhoek), ‘The Holy Gose’ (Frontier), chocolate orange ale (Kennel) and Kveik Cone Hop IPA (Old Potter’s) as well as a whole range of very limited edition brews from the Southyeasters Homebrewers Club, in collaboration with Old Potter’s Inn.

World First

But that’s not the only cool thing coming from Old Potter, whose founder, Trevor “You’re The Doc, Doc” Gerntholtz also started Fools & Fans in 2017. Their stand will showcase what I believe to be a world first at a beer festival. In a bid to cut queue times – and create a bit of a spectacle – the Old Potter stand will be using a sushi bar-style conveyor belt to help dispense its beers. A range of different pints will be chugging around the stand at any one time, marked with a coloured dot just like in a sushi joint so you know which brew you’re getting. “The only concern is the beers getting warm,” says Trevor, “but we will only crank up the conveyor belt – which has a built-in chiller – when the stand gets busy and we’ll keep an eye on it to make sure the beers are being grabbed timeously.” Old Potter staff, dressed in jester hats and jingly shoes, will be on hand to charge patrons for the beers they’ve chosen.

Win!

And as if all of this isn’t enough, I have two tickets for the festival to give away! To enter, either comment on and share the pinned post on The Brewmistress Facebook page, or complete and tweet the following:

I’d love to win two tickets to @FF_BeerFest with @LucyCorne. The beer lineup is foolproof but the brew I’m most looking forward to is ______

Winners will be announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Fools & Fans takes place on Saturday 6 April from 10am to 7pm. Tickets are R120 and are available here while stocks last.
