Help Kennel Brewery open their own taproom

If you spend much time on beer related social media, you have probably heard of The Kennel Brewery. Based in Durbanville, the microbrewery is best known for its one-off beers (29 releases in 2021!), light-hearted videos and fabulous can art (they also have their own design studio, The Kennel Creative). What they don’t have is a tap room – at least not yet. And that’s where you come in.

After a couple of years without a taproom to call their own – and many months of searching – Kennel have found the perfect site. It’s close to the brewery in Durbanville, it’s on the site of an existing bistro and most importantly of all of course, it is dog-friendly. The plan is to build the taproom inside a container – but the brewery needs funds to help achieve the dream.

So they have launched a Thundafund campaign to try to raise the R50K they need in order to build their perfect taproom. The money will go towards buying and transporting the container, setting up water and electricity and other bits and bobs. “Unfortunately with the Covid and all the liquor bans, the beer industry isn’t booming,” says Kennel’s founder Paul Freysen on the Thundafund page. “So we need to come up with 50k to make this dream a reality.”

You can support by heading over to the crowd-funding page and buying beers, merch or even getting your own label designed for custom cans of beer. You can also join for a brewday with your mates – a great package that includes a braai with the brewers and a case of beer each to take home.

Wishing you all the best with the fundraising Paul and team – hope you meet your goal!
